I finished up in Atlanta with a trip to Charlottesville and Lexington with Kreeeesta, and somewhere in there I got a nasty stomach infection and learned how to text message. Hello and late thank you to all of our hosts, Winnay, Haygood, Brock, and the other 13 roommates, MJ, Austin, Martha, etc….
Mom and I landed in Chicago on the 10th and spent the next 5 days in move-in hellllll. Most obviously: A) the cleaning people who’d had 10 days since the last tenants were out were here when we were supposed to move in, B) new blinds put in before the floors were sanded (though not refinished) = layer of orange dust on blinds = hours of cleaning, C) the instructions “leave the brown room brown and paint the yellow room white” were waaaaay too complicated for B&A, so the living room was white and my room was URINE. So all of those things slowed the process. Then there was IKEA telling us they could do next-day delivery and basically failing at that, but that got us a free set-up man who kicked ass. So now I have a pretty dresser (Leksvik 6-drawer, if you know the IKEA catalog like we in the spicebox do) and desk (Alve bureau with shelves) and tables in the living room and such. also i bought a big white chest at target for the foot of my bed. my room is cute and homey, as in homey don’t play that. or something.
then mom went home and me and molly went grocery shopping and megan left for NYC to write about festive casual. jessica arrived and got us all kappa deltaed up and emilie showed up (wheeeee!) and her dad cooked for us (ahhh) and i spent too much money at asinamali and classes started and they are good. in jr high and high school i would write a diary entry at the beginning of each semester that would be formatted in a list like this:
Class; Teacher; Friends; Cute boys.
but after i named the class and the teacher i would have two smiley faces, each gauging how much i liked the class and the teacher. for instance:
English; Mrs. Roberts :-D >:O ; kathleen, etc…
I feel like i should do this now. Except it would be really short… and that’s just not necessary ;) And anyway, seeing as how we haven’t had a Tuesday yet, i still haven’t had my history seminar (my first history class since Fall 2001… ehhh).
Other important things going on:
~ Jessica taught me how to use Microsoft Money. I am so together it hurts.
~ Haircut and Color = very cute. yay for Melanie, who is of course moving to New Orleans now that she has given me the perfect haircut. uggggh.
~ I bought a bottle of Pomegranate juice because I liked the bottle. I am trying to finish it as I write this. I have had it for 2 weeks. It is a 15 oz. bottle.
~ we have great neighbors. yay for the 3rd floor jews! megan will upset the 100% jewness up here, but that’s okay. we won’t defenestrate her or anything ;)
~ my first assignment for the fabulous brian bouldrey this fall is to write a personal essay On Cats. YES. :)
~ I am enjoying
Writing Haikus. Want one or
Two on you? Tell me.
I promise, really,
That they’ll be better than these.
I swear. Ask around.
~ We had a mouse on Friday and tonight our neighbors came over… they found it! It was for some reason running around in their kitchen instead of ours. We were very happy. So we helped them get rid of it (many clorox products) and they named it Hubert and we all lived happily ever after.
In more serious news, today I was reminded quite suddenly of (wheeee!) mortality. and not mortality death but mortality the quality or condition of being mortal. and as usual, what do i have to say about it but “live your life filled with joy and thunder” and that “we were altogether lost in our little lives.” i’m hoping this will all be followed by sweetness soon, but in the meantime i will write stumbly emails and talk to God every now and then. It’s a good time of year to be talking to God. And Miss Bee Bee.
joy and thunder
joy and thunder
and spice.
